ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy men's track and field team (7-0) will host the annual Wesley Brown Invitational at the Wesley Brown Field House on Saturday at 11:00 AM. Navy will be joined by The Citadel, Maryland, Princeton and William & Mary. The Wesley Brown Invitational is a non-team scored meet.

The first field event will be the weight throw at 11:00 AM and the first running event will be the 5,000m at 12 noon.

The invitational, as well as the indoor track facility, is named in honor of Lt. Cmdr. Wesley A. Brown, USN. Brown became the first African American to graduate from the Naval Academy in 1949. He passed away on May 22, 2012 at the age of 85.

The Mids, who sit at No. 2 in the season's first USTFCCCA Mid-Atlantic Region rankings, have athletes ranked No. 1 on the Patriot League performance lists in a conference-best eight events heading into the weekend.

A big part of Navy's success this season has been the contributions of the freshman class. Four different plebes have been named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week this season, a conference record.

Freshman Jiles Maness shares the league's top spot in the pole vault this year with teammate Mark Vetere with clears of 16-4¾ (5.00m). Freshman Steve Schroeder is ranked No. 1 in the 3,000m run (8:19.09) and No. 4 in both the mile (4:13.43) and the 1,000m (2:29.00). Freshman Jeremy Granderson is ranked second in the league in the long jump (22-9¾, 6.95m) and freshman Austin Batiste is second in the 400m (48.99) and third in the 200m (21.91).

Navy will face both Princeton and William & Mary for the second time this season. Navy defeated Princeton in a dual meet, 91-89, in New Jersey on January 6. William & Mary competed at the non-team scored Navy Invitational on December 1.

Navy will head to West Point next weekend to compete in the annual Army-Navy Indoor Star Meet on Sunday, February 3 at 3:30 PM. Navy owns a 26-25-2 all-time lead in the indoor series and defeated Army, 98-83, last season.
