INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -
Navy head men's track and field coach Stephen Cooksey has been named to the Team USA coaching staff for the 14th IAAF World Outdoor Championships in Moscow, Russia, USA Track & Field recently announced.
Cooksey will serve as an assistant coach in charge of jumps and the combined events. This will the fifth time he has served on a national team coaching staff.
"It's an absolute honor to be selected," Cooksey said. "It's great to be around athletes of that caliber and I still get amazed by what they can do."
Cooksey will be overseeing the decathlon, high jump, pole vault and the long and triple jumps.
Cooksey recently led Navy to its fifth Patriot League Indoor Championship in the last 10 years last weekend and was named the Patriot League Coach of the Year for the sixth time.
The University of Florida's head men's track and field coach Mike Holloway will serve as the Team USA men's head coach and Cooksey's fellow assistants will be South Carolina's Curtis Frye (sprints/hurdles), Oklahoma's Brian Blutreich (throws) and Army's Troy Engle (distance).
The World Outdoor Championships will be contested from August 10-18, 2013 in Moscow and Cooksey will also be with the team for a training camp prior to the world meet.
At the most recent World Outdoor Championships in 2011 in Daegu, South Korea, Team USA recorded its second-highest World Outdoor medal total at 25 medals. Team USA maintained its status as the world's No. 1 track & field team by placing atop the medal count for most medals overall and most gold medals with 12.
