ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy men's indoor track and field team will compete in the 2014 Patriot League Indoor Championship at Bucknell’s Gerhard Field House in Lewisburg, Pa. this weekend. The three-day meet featuring the league's eight schools will run from Friday to Sunday.

The championships get underway on Friday with the women's pentathlon and the first four events in the men's heptathlon. The action continues on Saturday with the conclusion of the heptathlon as well as the men and women's weight throw, long jump and high jump in the field and finals in the 5,000-meter runs and 4x800m relays on the track. The bulk of the medals will be handed out when the championships conclude on Sunday with 22 track finals as well as pole vault, triple jump and shot put in the field.

Head coach Stephen Cooksey will look to lead the team to back-to-back indoor titles and the program’s sixth indoor team title overall. The Mids won the 2013 indoor league meet with 204.50 points, which was 22.50 points better than Bucknell. Navy was voted as the favorites to win the league crown in the league's preseason poll.

Navy is poised for another run at the title, having brought back the League’s Track Athlete, Field Athlete and Rookie of the Year in Weston Kennedy, Zack Duncavage and Austin Batiste, respectively.

Navy has had a very successful indoor season in 2013-14. The Mids won dual meets against Army and Princeton and took first place at two team-scored home meets in January. Navy has qualified athletes to the IC4A Indoor Championship in 17 of 20 the possible events.

Navy has been ranked in the top five of the USTFCCCA Mid-Atlantic Region Poll all season and is currently No. 4.

Following the Patriot League Indoor Championship, Navy will send its qualified athletes to Boston for the IC4A Indoor Championships from March 7-9.
