ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy men's outdoor track and field team will host American and Maryland-Eastern Shore in a three-team scored meet on Saturday. The hammer throw will begin at 10:00 AM and the first running event will be the 3,000m steeplechase at 12 noon.
All events excluding the hammer throw (at Hospital Point) will be held at Ingram Field.
Navy fared well at this meet the last two years, topping a four-team field with 279 team points last season. Delaware State was second with 144 points, Colgate was third (68) and American was fourth (38).
Navy opened the 2014 outdoor season in San Diego at the Point Loma Open last Saturday. The Mids won 10 events.
The Navy throwers showed their depth as two different Mids won three of four throwing disciplines. Overall, Navy took the top three spots in shot put, discus and hammer throw.
Senior Zack Duncavage won the shot put with a mark of 51-8.25 (15.75m). Duncavage also won the discus with mark of 182-08 (55.67m). Senior Kyle Fortney placed first in the hammer throw with a mark of 180-06 (55.03m). Sophomore Jay Stell recorded a second-place mark of 208-02 (63.44M) in the javelin.
Sophomore Jordan Sartor-Francis won the 200m dash at 21.51 and took Second in the 400m dash at 48.68. Sophomore Austin Batiste won in the 400m dash at 47.65.
In the distance, Joshua Kingsland led the way in the 800m run with a first-place finishing time of 1:56.31. Senior Weston Kennedy won the 1500m with a time of 3:56.74.
With fellow Patriot League school American in attendance on Saturday, Navy will be able to gauge itself against a conference school early in the outdoor season. Navy won the 2014 Patriot League Indoor Championship in February, while American took ninth place.
Navy is scheduled to compete at the Maryland Invitational in College Park next Saturday. The Mids will travel to Army in the annual Star Meet on Saturday, April 5.
