ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy men's outdoor track and field team will host American, Colgate and Delaware State in a four-team scored meet on Saturday. The hammer throw will begin at 10:00 AM and the first running event will be the 3,000m steeplechase at 12 noon.

All events excluding the hammer throw (at Hospital Point) will be held at Ingram Field. The 10,000m run will be contested on Friday at 7:00 PM.

Navy fared well at this meet last March, topping a five-team field with 240 team points. Maryland-Eastern Shore was second with 150 points, Colgate was third (67), American was fourth (34) and Maryland took fifth place with four points.

Navy opened the 2013 outdoor season in San Diego at the Point Loma Open last Saturday. The Mids won seven events and posted five IC4A-qualifying marks.

Sophomore David Capote won the javelin with an IC4A mark of 194-11 (59.41m) at Point Loma and junior Kyle Fortney took first place in the discus with an IC4A distance of 158-1 (48.20m). Sophomore Mark Vetere won the pole vault with a clear of 16-0 (4.88m), also an IC4A mark.

Also winning individual events at the Point Loma Open were junior Brett Bogaard in the 400m (49.09), sophomore Joshua Kingsland in the 800m (1:54.62), junior Brandon Swindler in the hammer throw (173-6, 52.90m) and junior Zack Duncavage in the shot put (49-8, 15.14m).

With fellow Patriot League schools American and Colgate in attendance on Saturday, Navy will learn how it stacks up against other conference schools early in the outdoor season. Navy won the 2013 Patriot League Indoor Championship in February, while American took fifth place and Colgate was seventh.

Navy is scheduled to compete at the Maryland Invitational in College Park next Saturday. The Mids will host Army in the annual Star Meet on Saturday, April 6.
