ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy men’s track and field team will travel to the Maryland Invitational on Saturday, March 29 at Kehoe Track in College Park, Md.
The Mids will compete against a field of nine teams, which includes American, Catholic, George Washington, Johns Hopkins, Maryland and Mount St. Mary’s. The meet will open up with the shot put at 10 a.m. for the field events and will begin on the track at 10:30 a.m. with the 3,000m steeplechase.
Navy was successful at last year’s Maryland Invitational. The Mids tallied 10 first-place finishes and nine IC4A-qualifying performances. Navy, who will be without Duncavage, swept all four throwing events, which Duncavage won three of them. However, Kyle Fortney and Derrick Petett recorded top-four finishes in both the hammer throw and discus.
Mids senior thrower Zack Duncavage will compete at the 2014 Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays on Saturday at 3:30 p.m., which is held at the University of Texas.
Duncavage will be put to the test against the nation’s best discus throwers. The senior thrower is competing against 16 other athletes, including UCLA’s Julian Wruck. Wruck is a two-time NCAA discus champion (2011, 2013).
Duncavage’s career-best throw in the discus is 192-8 (58.74m), which he achieved at the 2013 Patriot League Outdoor Championship. The League City, Texas native’s throw of 182-8 (55.67m) at the Point Loma Invitational this season is ranked 17th.
Duncavage and Navy will travel to Army on Saturday, April 5 for the annual Star meet. The competition for the men’s will begin at 3 p.m., following the conclusion of the women’s meet.
