ANNAPOLIS, Md. -
The Navy men's outdoor track and field team (3-0) will travel to College Park to compete at the Maryland Invitational at Kehoe Track on Saturday at 10:00 AM. Maryland will be hosting Navy, American, Bucknell, George Washington, Howard, Johns Hopkins and Mount St. Mary's.
Navy is coming off a solid performance at its home four-team meet last weekend. Navy scored 279 team points to finish ahead of Delaware State (144), Colgate (68) and American (38).
The Mids won 14 events and also posted nine IC4A-qualifying performances. Junior Zack Duncavage was named the Patriot League Field-Athlete of the Week and freshman Austin Batiste was chosen as the Patriot League Rookie of the Week on the Monday following the meet.
Duncavage was a double winner last weekend, taking first place in the discus (181-2, 55.22m; ECAC) and the shot put (50-9¼, 15.47m). His discus mark was the third-best in school history.
Batiste placed second in the 400m dash with a personal-best and IC4A-qualifying time of 48.10. The 48.10 is the fastest 400m time ran by an Patriot League sprinter during the 2013 indoor or outdoor seasons.
The Patriot League released its preseason poll on Monday and Navy was voted as the favorite to win the 2013 outdoor championship. Navy received nine first-place votes and 92 points to top the poll. Bucknell received seven first-place votes and 90 points to finish a close second. Navy won the 2013 Patriot League Indoor Championship and Bucknell won the 2012 Patriot League Outdoor Championship.
Navy will host Army for the N-Star on Saturday, April 6 at Ingram Field at 10:00 AM. Navy swept the indoor and outdoor Star Meets in 2012 and also won the indoor meet this season, 93-88.
