ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Navy men's track and field athletes Zack Duncavage (League City, Texas) and Austin Batiste (Long Beach, Calif.) have received weekly accolades for their performances in Navy's 105-97 victory over Army in the Outdoor Star Meet last Saturday.
Duncavage has been named the Naval Academy Athletic Association Athlete of the Week presented by Rolls-Royce, as well as the Patriot League Field Athlete of the Week. Batiste has been named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week by the conference office.
Duncavage was a double winner at the Army-Navy Star Meet, taking first place in the discus and the shot put. The junior broke his own Navy school record and the Army-Navy Star Meet record in the discus with a throw of 185-2 (56.44m), which clinched the meet for Navy. Duncavage won the shot put with a mark of 52-3¼ (15.93m) and surpassed the IC4A standard in the discus, shot put and hammer events.
Duncavage's discus mark is ranked No. 11 in the NCAA East Region this season and he earns his sixth career Patriot League weekly honor.
Batiste was also a double winner at the Army-Navy Meet, taking first in the 200m dash and the 400m dash. Batiste won the 200m at 21.83 and won the 400m with a time of 48.21 (IC4A). He also posted an IC4A-qualifying time with the 4x100m relay at 41.49.
Batiste was also a double winner at the Army-Navy Indoor Star Meet in February. Like the outdoor meet, he won both the 200m and the 400m en route to helping Navy post a 93-88 victory.
Batiste wins his fifth Patriot League Rookie of the Week award of the 2012-13 season. Navy has had five different plebes win a total of 10 Patriot League Rookie of the Week awards this season.
Navy (4-0) will next compete at the George Mason Invitational this Saturday.
