April 15, 2013
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Freshman Jay Stell (Carlsbad, N.M.) has been named the M-F Athletics Patriot League Track and Field Rookie of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
Stell won the javelin at the George Mason Invitational this past Saturday with a mark of 219-10 (67.02m).
Stell's mark was his personal best and well over the IC4A Championship-qualifying standard. Stell's mark ranks No. 15 in the NCAA's East Region and is the top mark in the Patriot League this season.
Stell has won the javelin event in three out of four competitions this season.
This is the second time this season that Stell has won the league's rookie of the week award. Navy freshmen have garnered 11 rookie of the week awards during the 2012-13 indoor and outdoor track and field seasons.
The Navy men's track and field team will compete at the University of Florida's Tom Jones Memorial on Saturday.
