ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Navy men’s track and field team will split up this weekend for two different meets. The Mids top distance runners and a few field athletes will compete at the Larry Ellis Invitational, hosted by Princeton Saturday. Navy’s top field athletes and sprinters travel to the Tom Jones Memorial, held by the University of Florida Saturday.
Zack Duncavage, Jay Stell, Kyle Fortney, Derrick Petett, Thomas Buffone, Jeremy Granderson, Nick Deterding, Griffie Loy, Isaac Losee, Austin Batiste, Jeremy Cadiente, Jordan Sartor-Francis, Joshua Kingsland and Roberto Swersky will be heading to the Tom Jones Memorial. The field events will begin at 1 p.m. with the high jump and the running events will begin at 2:10 with the 4x100m relay.
Sean Rynning, Steve Schroeder, Shane O’Donnell, Nick Palermo, Ryan Kelley, Weston Kennedy, Michael Brunoforte, Josh Drablos, Jon Drablos and Thomas Swanson will be traveling to the Larry Ellis Invite. The track events begin at noon and the field events begin at 11 a.m.
Navy had a strong team outing at the Geroge Mason Invitational, finishing second out of 23 teams. Navy’s hammer and discus thowers combined for two top-two finishes and five IC4A-qualifying performances. Senior Zack Duncavage
led the Mids with a second-place finish in the discus (167-0; 50.90m) and a third-place finish in the hammer (182-2; 55.52m).
On the track, Navy captured four IC4A-qualifying times. Sophomore Austin Batiste finished second in the 400m dash with a time of 47.46 (IC4A). Junior Joshua Kingsland placed seventh in the 800m run with a finishing time of 1:50.22 (IC4A).
Following a strong George Mason Invitational, Duncavage was named Patriot League Field Athlete of the Week for the second time in the outdoor season and fifth overall in his career.
Navy heads to the annual Penn Relays next weekend in Philadephia, Pa.
