Stell Earns His Third Patriot League Weekly Track Accolade

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Navy freshman Jay Stell (Carlsbad, N.M.) has been named the M-F Athletic Patriot League Track and Field Rookie of the Week for the third time during the outdoor season the conference office announced Monday.
Stell won the javelin at the University of Florida's Tom Jones Memorial on Saturday in Gainesville. Stell posted an IC4A Championship-qualifying mark of 204-3 (62.26m) to win the event by nearly 20 feet.
Stell won the javelin for the fourth time in five opportunities during his plebe season.
The former New Mexico state champion is ranked No. 1 in the javelin on the Patriot League performance list this season with his top mark of 219-10 (67.02m). Stell is also ranked No. 17 on the NCAA's East Region list and is likely to finish the season in the top 48 to qualify for the NCAA's East Region Championship in late May.
The Navy freshman class has now captured 12 Patriot League Men's Track and Field Rookie of the Week awards during the 2012-13 indoor and outdoor seasons.
The Navy men's track team (4-0) will compete at the historic Penn Relays this Thursday through Saturday.
