CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Navy senior Christopher Galvin (Austin, Texas) has been named the Patriot League Men's Outdoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the conference office announced Monday. Galvin, junior Brett Bogaard (Pella, Iowa,) and sophomore Tom Buffone (Freehold, N.J.) were also named to the 10-member Patriot League All-Academic Team.

Galvin becomes the fourth conference athlete to sweep the three Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards for cross country, indoor track and outdoor track in one academic year and is the first Midshipman to accomplish the feat. Galvin is also a recent NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship recipient.

The senior distance runner won the 10,000m run at the Patriot League Outdoor Championship with a meet record time of 29:57.26. This past weekend, Galvin placed second in the 10,000m run at the Virginia Challenge with a personal-best time of 29:34.31.

Galvin will graduate this month with a 4.0 GPA as a mechanical engineering major. He has been named to the Superintendent's List and the Commandant's List in all eight of his semesters at the Academy and is ranked first in Overall Order of Merit in the Class of 2013. Galvin's additional accolades include serving as the secretary of Tau Beta Pi (an Engineering Honor Society), membership in the American Nuclear Society Club and distinction as a Trident Scholar.

Bogaard earns on spot on the Patriot League All-Academic Team for the second time this academic year after also earning the accolade during the indoor track and field season. Bogaard, a sprinter, has a 3.94 GPA as a quantitative economics major.
