CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Navy men’s track and field senior Brett Bogaard (Pella, Iowa) and junior Thomas Buffone (Freehold, N.J.) were named to the 2014 Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field All-Academic Team, announced by the league office Monday.
Bogaard honored on both the indoor and outdoor league track and field all-academic squads this season. He carries a 3.95 GPA as a quantitative economics major. The Pella, Iowa native has posted a 4.0 GPA in each of his last five semesters and is ranked No. 39 in his class in Academic Order of Merit.
Bogaard competed in three events that finished in the top eight at the Patriot League outdoor championship. Individually, the sprinter placed eighth in the 200m dash, clocking in at 21.50 (IC4A). Bogaard was a part of Navy’s 4x100m relay squad and 4x400m relay team, both of which finished second, respectively.
Buffone helped Navy in the league championship, scoring in two of the three throwing events he competed in. His mark of 191-4 in the hammer throw placed him second and tallied eight teams points, which was his highest finished in an event for the meet. Buffone also placed in the top eight in the shot put, finishing seventh with a mark 50-10.25. He has a perfect 4.0 GPA while majoring in physics and ranks first among his 1107 classmates in Academic Order of Merit.
The Navy men’s track and field team will head to Princeton, N.J. this Friday through Sunday for the IC4A Championship.
