ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Navy's Cody Rome (Eagle, Idaho) has been selected to the Capital One All-Academic District II First Team for men's track and field/cross country for the third straight year, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) recently announced.

Rome was a 2010-11 CoSIDA Second-Team Academic All-American and will be on the national Academic All-American ballot once again this year. The CoSIDA Academic All-American team will be announced on June 19.

Rome was instrumental in Navy defeating Army in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track in 2011-12. Rome was the medalist at the cross country meet, won the mile at the indoor track and field Star Meet and doubled at the outdoor Star Meet, winning the 1,500m and the 5,000m.

Rome began his senior season by helping the men's cross country team win a fourth straight Patriot League Championship with an eighth-place finish at the league meet. Rome later earned NCAA All-Mid-Atlantic honors by placing 18th at the regional meet and helped Navy to a fifth-place team finish.

Following the cross country season, Rome earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors and was named to the Patriot League Cross Country All-Academic Team.

Rome, already the school's record holder in the 3,000m run (7:55.12), nearly broke his own record with a 7:55.24 in winning the event at Notre Dame's Alex Wilson Invitational during the indoor track season.

Rome later led Navy to a runner-up finish at the Patriot League Indoor Championship by winning both the 3,000m and the 5,000m. Rome's first-place time (14:10.63) in the 5,000m was the third-best indoor time in school history.

Rome was named the Patriot League Men's Indoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second straight season and also earned a spot on the all-academic team.

The senior capped off his senior year by helping Navy to a runner-up finish at the outdoor league championship meet with second-place finishes in the 1,500m and the 5,000m. Rome also earned All-East honors by placing second in the 1,500m at the IC4A Championship and placed 23rd in the 5,000m at the NCAA East Regional.

Rome ran the sixth-best outdoor 5,000m time in school history, a 14:01.36, to place fourth at Princeton's Larry Ellis Invitational.

Rome was named to the Patriot League All-Academic team for outdoor track and field, his third such honor of the year, with his 3.58 GPA as an applied mathematics major. Rome's service selection is submarines.

Rome finished his career with five individual Patriot League titles, six runner-up finishes and was a three-time NCAA East Regional Qualifier.

Rome was recently presented the NAAA Sword for Men, which is the most prestigious athletic award given to a graduating member of the United States Naval Academy.

To be eligible for the initial district ballot, student-athletes must have attained a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.30, be at a minimum a sophomore academically and a starter or key reserve on their respective team. District II is made up of Division I schools from Washington, D.C., Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
