Patriot League Men's Track and Field Academic Honor Roll
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - The Navy men's track and field program earned 22 selections to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, the conference announced Thursday. Student-athletes needed a grade-point average of at least 3.20 during the 2013 spring semester and be a member of the track and field team during the indoor or outdoor season to earn a spot on the academic honor roll.
Recent graduate Christopher Galvin headlines the team's academic honor roll nominees. Galvin graduated as the Naval Academy's valedictorian with a 4.0 grade-point average in mechanical engineering. Galvin was named the Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for cross country, men's indoor and men's outdoor track and field. He also earned CoSIDA Academic All-District II honors for cross country/track and field.
Recent graduate and outdoor season team captain Kolton Kempel was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll for the fourth-straight year. Kempel graduated as an honors history major.
Six student-athletes achieved 4.00 grade-point averages during the spring semester with three-time honor roll nominees Brett Bogaard (rising senior) and recent graduate Jordan Gruber leading the group. Galvin, rising junior Tom Buffone, rising junior Drew Calcagno and rising senior Andrew Mighty also achieved 4.0 grade-point averages this past spring.
Navy won the 2013 Patriot League Indoor Championship and placed third at the outdoor championship. Navy swept Army in the indoor and outdoor Star Meets for the second straight season. The Mids also placed 27th at the IC4A Indoor Championship and were 16th at the IC4A Outdoor Championship.
