Men's Track and Field Tallies 24 to Patriot League Academic Honor Roll

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Navy men’s track and field team tallied 24 Midshipmen to the 2014 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, announced by the league office Wednesday. The 24 Mids are tied for the second most for Navy since 2004.
Headlining Navy’s 24-man group are recent graduate Brett Bogaard (Pella, Iowa) and rising senior Thomas Buffone (Freehold, N.J.) as both Mids recorded perfect 4.0 GPAs for the spring semester. Bogaard and Buffone were recently named to the 2014 CoSIDA Academic All-District II Team for cross country/track and field. Bogaard graduated with 3.95 GPA while majoring in quantitative economics and Buffone currently holds a perfect 4.00 GPA through his first six semesters at the Naval Academy.
Along with Bogaard and Buffone, recent graduate Ryan Kochert and rising junior Jeremy Jones each recorded 4.0 GPAs in the spring semester, respectively, while majoring in computer engineering and systems engineering.
Rising junior Shane O’Donnell (Norfolk, Va.) earned a spot on the honor roll with a 3.63 GPA while majoring in honors political science. O’Donnell competed in the NCAA East Region Preliminaries and finished 24th out of 48 in the 3000m steeplechase with a personal-best 8:57.50.
For the second time in program history and first since 2008, Navy completed the season sweep of the Patriot League indoor and outdoor championship title and defeated Army in both the indoor and outdoor meets. Individually, rising junior Jay Stell (Carlsbad, N.M.) qualified for the NCAA Championship and finished third overall in the javelin.
