Men's Track and Field Earns 31 Academic Honor Roll Selections
July 3, 2012
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - The Navy men's track and field program earned 31 selections to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, the conference office recently announced. Student-athletes needed a grade-point average of at least 3.20 during the 2012 spring semester and be a member of the track and field team during the indoor or outdoor season to earn a spot on the academic honor roll.
The 31 honorees are just one shy of Bucknell's league-best 32. Six Navy student-athletes posted a 4.0 GPA in the spring semester.
Recent graduate Cody Rome (Eagle, Idaho) highlights Navy's list of selections after earning CoSIDA Academic All-America Second-Team honors for the second straight year. Rome earned a 3.88 GPA in the spring and graduated with a 3.58 cumulative GPA as an applied mathematics major. This is Rome's fourth selection to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.
Rome was also chosen as the Patriot League's Indoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year this year for the second consecutive year after winning both the 3,000m and the 5,000m titles at the indoor league meet.
Bogaard and Galvin each posted a 4.00 GPA this spring, as did freshman Tom Buffone (Freehold, N.J.), sophomore Jeremy Cadiente (Beech Island, S.C.), junior Jordan Gruber (Grove City, Pa.) and freshman Jacob Fox (Colorado Springs, Colo.).
Two of Navy's honorees competed at the NCAA's East Regional Championship this past spring. Rome placed 23rd in the 5,000m and Ken Bunnell (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) placed 22nd in the 3,000m steeplechase.
Navy placed second at both the Patriot League's Indoor and Outdoor Championships and defeated Army in the Star Meet in both the indoor and outdoor season.
