ANNAPOLIS, Md. -
Navy men's track and field athletes Christopher Galvin (Austin, Texas) and Ryan Kochert (Moreland Hills, Ohio) received All-Academic honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Galvin graduated in May and Kochert is entering his senior year.
Galvin and Kochert are among 448 Division I men's athletes to earn USTFCCCA All-Academic honors for the 2012-13 season. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, student-athletes must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have participated in the NCAA East Regional during the outdoor season or finish the indoor season ranked in the top 96 of their event.
Galvin placed 13th in the 10,000m run with a time of 30:03 at the NCAA East Regional Championship in May, just missing the top-12 cutoff to make the NCAA Championship. Galvin ran a personal best 10K time of 29:34 at the Virginia Challenge and won the 10K at the Patriot League Outdoor Championship.
Galvin was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team for cross country/track and field in 2013. He also earned three Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards for the sports of cross country, indoor track and outdoor track.
He graduated as the Naval Academy's valedictorian with a 4.00 grade-point average as a mechanical engineering major.
Kochert placed 25th in the pole vault at the NCAA East Regional Championship with a clear of 16-6¾ (5.05m). Kochert's top clear of the outdoor season was a 16-8¾ (5.10m) at Florida's Tom Jones Memorial.
Kochert earned IC4A All-East honors in the pole vault during the outdoor season and was the runner-up in the event at the 2013 Patriot League Indoor Championship.
Kochert carries a 3.27 cumulative grade-point average as a systems engineering major.
