Men's Indoor Track & Field Picked as Preseason PL Favorites

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Defending Patriot League Champion Navy men’s track and field was predicted to finish first in the League’s preseason poll, which was announced by the conference on Friday.

Navy captured 14 of the 18 possible first-place votes and tallied 126 points to garner the top spot. 2013 Patriot League runner-up Bucknell was selected to place second with 109 points.

League newcomer Boston University is wasting no time being recognized, having garnered the final four first-place votes and was selected to finish third with 102 points. Army, finishing just 11 points behind BU, was picked to finish fourth in the standings with 91 points. Lehigh rounded out the top five with 71 points.

American (54), Lafayette (49), Colgate (25) and Holy Cross (21) rounded out the group of nine in the preseason poll.

Navy is poised for another run at the title, having brought back the League’s Track Athlete, Field Athlete and Rookie of the Year in Weston Kennedy, Zack Duncavage and Austin Batiste, respectively. The Mids will be led by 26-year veteran Stephen Cooksey, who is a five-team Patriot League Coach of the Year.

The Mids will begin the 2013 season with the Navy Invitational on Friday, Dec. 6 at the Wesley A. Brown Field House. The field event of the weight throw will begin at 5 p.m., while the track event of the 5000m run will start a 6 p.m.
