Ivovic Added to Water Polo Coaching Staff

Ivan Ivovic brings a wealth of coaching experience to the Naval Academy.

Ivan Ivovic joined the Navy water polo coaching staff in the spring of 2017, bringing with him a wealth of coaching experience.

Prior to joining the Mids' coaching staff, Ivovic operated as the Director of Operations for Southern California for the men's and women's water polo teams from December 2015 to August 2016, while also serving as a Scouting Coach for the Senior USA Water Polo National Team (2015-17).

In 2015, Ivovic joined Pomona Pitzer after working for a year and a half with USA Water Polo. He served as an assistant coach with the Junior National Men's Water Polo Team for a year, and also served as a scouting coach with the Senior Men's Water Polo National Team.

In addition to his work with USA Water Polo, Ivovic also served as the head coach for MIT Men's and Women's Water Polo for one year (2013-14) and as an assistant coach with Johns Hopkins (2012-13) for a year. He also volunteered on the coaching staff at USC (2012) for six months and served as the head coach at Gonzaga College High School (2014-15) in Washington, D.C. for the year before joining Pomona Pitzer.

Ivocic began his coaching career in 2007, spending five seasons as the head water polo coach at Gonzaga College High School. He led the varsity team to a runner-up finish in the B Bracket of the Eastern Division Championship Tournament in 2009 and then led the team to the title in the A Bracket in 2011. In March 2010, he started a year-round club team for high school and junior high athletes in the Washington, D.C. area.

In 2011, Ivovic joined the coaching staff at USC, assisting with both the men's and women's programs where the women's water polo team advanced to the NCAA Championship match.

A native of Belgrade, Serbia, played for the Montenegrin team Rivijera from the age of eight through the age of 20. He also played club water polo for the Rockville Water Polo team from 2006 to 2009.

Ivovic has a degree in kinesiology science from the University of Maryland, where he graduated summa cum laude (3.97 GPA) with high honors in 2009. He played collegiate club water polo for the Terps, which placed second at the Eastern Club Team Championships in 2008.

Ivovic is also an author of the book "Dissecting the Game of Water Polo."
