PRINCETON, N.J. -- The 17th-ranked Navy water polo team bounced back from its quarterfinal loss to rout MIT, 21-9, in the consolation round of the CWPA Eastern Championship.
The Midshipmen improve to 23-5 with the victory and will play in the fifth-place match on Sunday against Brown at 11:30 AM (ET).
Navy led just 2-1 after one quarter but outscored the Engineers, 6-3, in the second quarter for an 8-4 advantage at the break.
The Midshipmen would squelch any chance of an MIT comeback with an 8-4 third-quarter scoring burst to take a 16-8 lead before settling in for the 21-9 final.
Anthony Gutierrez made five saves in goal for the Midshipmen.
Navy looks for its 24th win of the season in Sunday's fifth-place game against Brown. Navy has won at least 24 games in four of the last six seasons, dating back to 2006.
