Six Mids Earn ACWPC All-Academic Team Laurels
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Highlighted by Shepherd Warren’s 3.87 GPA, the Navy water polo team had six of its student-athletes named to 2016 Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-Academic teams. To be eligible for the squad, a student-athlete needed to have a 3.20 or better cumulative GPA following the fall semester. The group was then split into three teams; Outstanding (3.71 - 4.00 GPA), Superior (3.41 - 3.70 GPA) and Excellent (3.20 - 3.40 GPA).
Warren, a junior majoring in Mathematics led Navy as a member of the Outstanding ranks. This is Warren’s second straight appearance on the top academic team. Sophomore goalie Francis Kim, a Political Science major, joins Warren as he also met the threshold for Outstanding notoriety.
Three Mids were named to the Superior team with returning all-academic team members juniors Ian Bagent and Jack Robinson leading the way. Bagent is majoring in Arabic, while Robinson is studying Operations Research. Trevor Clark, a freshman who has yet to declare a major was the third student-athlete from the Naval Academy noted on the Superior team.
Kevin Volkov rounds out the list of honorees as the freshman (undeclared) was recognized on the Excellent team.
These are the second career honors for Warren, Kim, Bagent and Robinson, respectively. In total, the six accolades extend the program’s stretch of four or more individuals on ACWPC All-Academic Teams dating back to 2005.
