Water Polo Places 10 on ACWPC All-Academic Team
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy water polo team had 10 of its student-athletes named to 2017 Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-Academic teams. To be eligible for the squad, a student-athlete needed to have a 3.20 or better cumulative GPA following the fall semester. The group was then split into three teams; Outstanding (3.71 - 4.00 GPA), Superior (3.41 - 3.70 GPA) and Excellent (3.20 - 3.40 GPA).
Crawford Smith (Mechanicsburg, Pa.), Francis Kim (Houston, Texas), and Shepherd Warren (Baltimore, Md.) led Navy as a members of the Outstanding ranks, while Ian Bagent (Norcross, Ga.), Jack Robinson (Riverside, Conn.), Jesse Hainze (Bellevue, Wash.), Trevor Clark (San Marcos, Calif.), and Bobby Wall (San Mateo, Calif.) were all named to the Superior team. Kevin Volkov (Freehold, N.J.) and Cole Jacobs (Napperville, Ill.) rounded out the Midshipmen on the list on the Excellent team.
These are the third career honors for Warren, Kim, Bagent, and Robinson, respectively. In total, the 10 accolades extend the program’s stretch of four or more individuals on ACWPC All-Academic Teams dating back to 2005.
The All-Academic teams were comprised of a total of 354 student-athletes (92 Outstanding, 145 Superior, 117 Excellent), representing every college across the country that has collegiate water polo. A total of 106 Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) student-athletes were among those selected.
