ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Highlighted by Tyler Barker's 4.00 GPA, the Navy water polo team placed five student-athletes on the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-Academic teams. To be eligible for the squad, a student-athlete needed to have a 3.20 cumulative GPA during their season of competition. The group is then split into three teams; Outstanding (3.71 - 4.00 GPA), Superior (3.41 - 3.70 GPA) and Excellent (3.20 - 3.40 GPA).
Barker (4.00, Honors Systems Engineering) led Navy as a member of the Outstanding ranks. He is one of only 14 CWPA Division I players named to the Outstanding team. This is Barker's third top honor in three years as a Mid.
Three of Barker's teammates earned honors amongst the Superior ranks: Sean McDonald (3.67, American Politics and Law), Taylor Setness (3.47, International Relations) and Vikram Kanth (3.42, Computer Engineering). McDonald and Kanth are three-time honorees, while Setness collects his first ACWPC award.
Matt Newby (3.32, Information Technology) rounds out Navy's group of high academic achievers with a spot on the Excellent squad. This is the junior's third time on the All-Academic team.
Navy finished its 2013 campaign with a 19-15 record and its 13th CWPA Southern Division Championship.
