Naval Academy to Host Men's National Water Polo Tournament

ANNAPOLIS, Md.-The Naval Academy will host the United States Water Polo Men's National Tournament this weekend (Friday-Sunday) at Lejeune Hall. Tickets are $6.00 for adults and $4.00 for students 18 and under. Three days passes are also available for $15.00 (adult) and $10.00 (youth). Tickets will be available at Lejeune Hall.

"The best water polo players in the United States will be playing in this tournament," said Naval Academy head water polo coach Mike Schofield. "If we had a professional water polo league, most of these guys would be playing in it."

The tournament consist of eight teams: Olympic Club (San Francisco, Calif.), Newport (Newport Beach, Calif.), New York Aquatic Club B (New York, .Y.), Navy Aquatic Club B (Annapolis, Md.), New York Aquatic Club A (New York, N.Y.), Golden Bear (Berkeley, Calif.), Navy Aquatic Club A (Annapolis, Md.) and Young Athletes of America (Philadelphia, Pa.). Action starts at 10 a.m. on Friday and Sunday and 8 a.m. on Saturday (see below for the compete schedule). The championship game will take place at 1:30 on Sunday.

Eight former Olympians will be playing in the tournament: Danny Hackett ('96 and '00), Chi Kredel ('00) and Gavin Arroyo ('96 and '00) for New York thletic Club A, Mike Evans ('88, '92, and '96) for Newport, and Kirk Everist ('92 and '96) , Jeremy Laster ('96), Craig Klass ('92 and '96) and Alex Rousseau ('92 and '96) for Olympic Club.

The Navy A team will feature former Navy standout Sean Foster, along with current Mids Cody Acuna, Brendan Naeve, Adrian Rawn, Steve Phillabaum, Bill Miante, Joe Donahue and J.F. Zohorsky. Navy assistant Carl Salyer will also play for Navy A.
