Water Polo Returns to Pool Against GW and Johns Hopkins

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- After a week off, the Navy water polo team (8-11, 1-5 MAWPC) returns to action with a pair of Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference games on Saturday, Oct. 21. The Midshipmen open the day with a game against George Washington (10-11, 3-3 MAWPC) at 10:00 a.m. in Washington, D.C. before concluding the day-night doubleheader in Baltimore, Md. with a game versus Johns Hopkins (14-11, 0-5 MAWPC) at 7:00 p.m.

The game against George Washington will be streamed via the A-10, which requires a subscription ($4.95 for a one-day pass). In addition, the Johns Hopkins game will also be live streamed on its website for free.

The Colonials and Blue Jays face each other on Friday night prior to taking on the Mids on Saturday.

The Midshipmen are led by freshman Bobby Lee (Santa Ana, Calif.) who has a team-best 21 goals on the season. Taylor Bernhardt (Annapolis, Md.) lead the Mids with 12 assists on the year. Defensively, Bernhardt has a team-best 27 steals, and Francis Kim (Houston, Texas) owns a team-high 104 saves.

Navy is 52-7 all-time against George Washington. The Mids dropped a pair of games to the Colonials earlier this season. The two teams met in the first game of the 2017 season at the Navy Open with GW posting a 15-11 victory on Sept. 2 in Lejeune Hall. Later in the month, the Colonials posted a 17-12 win Scott Natatorium. George Washington lies just outside of the Top 20 poll, but is receiving votes.

The Midshipmen own a 52-7 all-time record against the Blue Jays. The two teams met earlier this season with the Mids notching an impressive 10-4 victory over Hopkins on Oct. 1 at Scott Natatorium. In its last outing, the Johns Hopkins water polo team scored a pair of fourth-quarter goals and got a last-second five-meter stop from senior John Wilson to beat host MIT, 11-10, in the CWPA Division III Championship game.

Following the games this weekend, the Navy water polo team close the regular season with a pair of road games over the next two weekends. The Midshipmen travel to Lewisburg, Pa. on Saturday, Oct. 28 to take on Bucknell in a game slated for 5:00 p.m. The Mids conclude the regular season with a road game against Fordham on Saturday, Nov. 4 in the Bronx, N.Y. at noon.

MAWP Championship
Navy will host the 2017 Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference Championship at Lejeune Hall on Friday through Sunday, Nov. 17-19. This is the second MAWPC Championship, and the winner earns an automatic berth to the NCAA Championship. Ticket prices are $25 for a tournament pass and $10 for a one-day pass. Children under 12 are free.
