ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy water polo team (8-13, 1-7 MAWPC) heads north to Lewisburg, Pa. for a match up with nationally ranked Bucknell (14-11, 7-0 MAWPC) on Saturday afternoon at 5:00 p.m. at Kinney Natatorium. The game against the Bison will be streamed via the Patriot League Network.
Prior to Saturday's game, Bucknell will host Johns Hopkins at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday as part of a day-night doubleheader.
The Midshipmen are led by freshman Bobby Lee (Santa Ana, Calif.) who has a team-best 25 goals on the season, just ahead of sophomore Nate Reiff (Wheeling, Ill.) who has 23 goals. Defensively, Bernhardt has a team-best 29 steals, and junior Francis Kim (Houston, Texas) owns a team-high 116 saves.
Last weekend, the Midshipmen battled hard, but came up just short in a pair of road games. The Mids started the day, being edged 16-14 at George Washington. In the second game of the day, the Midshipmen played even with Johns Hopkins in regulation, but surrendered the golden goal in triple overtime to fall to the Blue Jays, 11-10. Offensively, the Midshipmen were led by B. Lee and Reiff who finished the day with four goals apiece, while William Lowdon (Hillsborough, Calif.) contributed three goals on the day. Reiff tallied a hat trick against GW, while B. Lee netted a hat trick of his own against Hopkins. Eleven different players finished the day with at least one goal.
Navy is 84-21 all-time against Bucknell.
Earlier this season, the Mids notched 12 saves and 10 steals on defense, but were edged 9-6 by the Bison at Scott Natatorium. At goal, Kim recorded one of his best performances in a Navy uniform. The junior tallied 12 saves between the pipes, allowing nine goals and giving the Mids a chance offensively. Kim was helped by a strong defensive effort that registered 10 steals in the game. Conor Sullivan (Greenfield, Mass.) paced the team with three steals, while seven other players each intercepted the ball.
Following the game this weekend, the Navy water polo team concludes the regular season with a road game against Fordham on Saturday, Nov. 4 in the Bronx, N.Y. at noon.
