ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The 16th-ranked Navy water polo team was named the second seed for the upcoming CWPA Southern Division Tournament held this weekend on the campus of Princeton University in Princeton, N.J. The host Tigers will serve as the top seed.

Navy, 18-6 overall and 5-3 in CWPA Southern Division play, will compete in the three-team B bracket and will open play against seventh-seeded Notre Dame College (Ohio) at 8:15 pm on Friday night. The Midshipmen begin Saturday's pool play at 10:10 am against 11th-seeeded Salem International.

Should the Midshipmen win those first two games and win their bracket, the Midshipmen will play the winner of the C bracket, which could be Bucknell, at 5:30 pm, with that victor heading to the Southern Division title game on Sunday at 2:00 pm. Navy and Bucknell split this year, winning in each other's home pools.

The Midshipmen have dominated the CWPA Southern Division Championship since its inception in 1993. The Midshipmen own a 54-6 all-time mark in 18 appearances, winning 12 crowns. Navy owns a 10-5 record against Princeton during the tournament and is a combined 44-1 against the other teams in the field. However, that one in the loss column came in last year's event as Bucknell handed the Mids a 13-12 setback in the semifinal round, causing Navy to finish lower than second for the first time in school history as the Midshipmen placed third.

Navy had appeared in the finals of every CWPA Southern Division Tournament prior to last year.

The top four finishers in the tournament qualify for the CWPA Eastern Championship to be held Nov. 18-20 in Cambridge, Mass. The winner of the Eastern Tournament receives the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament in early December.
