ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Navy sophomore water polo player Kyle Wertz was named the CWPA Southern Division Player of the Week for his role in Navy's two league wins last week. It is the second weekly honor this year for a Navy player (Stevie Ray on Sept. 15) and the second time Wertz has won the award in his career.

Wertz, a 6-4, 190-pound left-hander from San Diego, led Navy to a pair of wins over the weekend. He tallied three goals and one assist in the Mids' 15-10 triumph at Johns Hopkins, then added a season-high five goals with an assist in a 13-11 victory at George Washington. For the season, Wertz has now totaled 37 goals and 14 assists for 51 points, ranking second on the team in both points and goals. Navy's first freshman All-American in school history a year ago, Wertz has 85 career goals and 29 career assists for 114 career points in just 52 career games.

Wertz and his teammates will compete in this weekend's CWPA Southern Division Tournament at Lewisburg, Pa. The Mids were awarded the top seed and will take on the winner of Washington & Jefferson and Penn State-Behrend at 11:30 am on Saturday morning. Should the Mids win that contest, Navy will play the winner of George Washington and Johns Hopkins at 5:45 pm on Saturday. The title game is slated for 3:30 pm on Sunday afternoon.
