Navy Set to Host MAWPC Tournament This Weekend
ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The United States Naval Academy will host the 2017 Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Championship this Friday-Sunday, Nov. 17-19, at Lejeune Hall.
The tournament is comprised of six MAWPC-East Region teams (Bucknell, Fordham, George Washington, Johns Hopkins, Navy, and Wagner) and the championship game qualifying teams from the MAWPC-West Region (Gannon and Mercyhurst). The championship will determine the league's automatic qualifier for the NCAA Men's Water Polo Championship.
Defending league champion Bucknell, which captured the MAWPC-East regular season title with a perfect 10-0 mark, earned the No. 1 seed for the championship. The order of finish in the MAWPC-East determines the No. 2-to-6 seeds as George Washington, Fordham, Wagner, Navy, and Johns Hopkins rate in order behind the Bison.
Gannon, which knocked off Mercyhurst by a 15-10 final score on November 5 at the Hallman Aquatics Center for the program's first-ever postseason championship, will play out of the No. 7 position with the Lakers holding the No. 8 spot.
For fans making the trip down to Annapolis for the championship weekend, general admission ticket prices are $10 per day and $25 for a weekend pass to the games on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Navy faculty, staff, administration, and students, along with senior citizens, receive a discounted rate of $5 per day and $12 for a weekend pass.
Due to the Naval Academy being an active United States Military installation, fans should be aware of the need to park off the Academy's grounds and walk through the Main Gate / Visitors Center to gain admission. Valid ID is required.
Fans who cannot make the trip to Navy will be able to follow all the action online as the MAWPC Championship will be live-streamed by the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Multimedia Department on a pay-per-view basis via the league's broadcast platform on Stretch Internet. Fans can access the streaming coverage by CLICKING HERE and signing up for either individual games ($10 per game) or a weekend pass ($25) that allows unlimited viewing on the tournament throughout the weekend.
