Mids Finish 11th in Final Water Polo Top 20 Poll

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy water polo team finished the 2000 season ranked 11th in the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) top 20 poll released this week by the CWPA office. The Mids' ranking is the highest for a team on the East Coast with St. Francis (N.Y.) the closest at No. 13.
Navy, which finished the season with a 24-12 mark, earned a berth in the NCAA Water Polo Tournament in Malibu, Calif., for the first time in six years by defeating St. Francis (N.Y.) 13-12 in sudden-death overtime to win the CWPA Eastern Tournament. The Mids fell to eventual NCAA Champion UCLA in the opening game of the tournament, 12-5. Navy dropped a 15-9 decision to Southern Cal in the third-place game Sunday.
National champion UCLA sits atop the final poll, followed by Southern Cal, California, Cal-Irvine and UC San Diego.
