Enters the season ranked eighth by Amateur Wrestling News and seventh by W.I.N. Magazine ... has the chance to become only the fifth four-time NCAA qualifier in program history and the first since Dan Hicks (1992-95) ... will defend the EIWA title he won in 2008 ... in hopes of joining Mark Conley, Tanner Garrett, Greg Gingeleski and Matt Stolpinski (4x) as a three-time All-Academy champion.
2007-08: Placed in all seven tournaments in which he competed en route to a 28-13 record (5-3 dual) and garnering All-America honors as a junior ... made an incredible run at the end of the year, winning 11 of his final 14 matches ... won 10 straight matches beginning with a 3-0 sweep at the All-Academy Championship where he turned in a 10-2 major decision over Army's Whitt Dunning to take his second All-Academy title ... moved on to win back-to-back dual matches which once again featured a 10-5 victory over Dunning in the annual Star Match ... entered the EIWA Championship as the No. 4 seed ... upset top-seeded and No. 2-ranked Mike Grey, 5-4, in the semifinals of the conference tournament ... defeated 18th-ranked and third-seeded David Marble in the championship bout, 5-4, to claim his first EIWA Championship ... he was one of three Navy wrestlers to win individual titles in 2007-08, joining Matt Stolpinski and Ed Prendergast ... took an eight-match winning streak into the National Championship where he won his first two bouts of the tournament, including a 3-1 decision over sixth-seeded and No. 6-ranked Lou Ruggirello of Hofstra ... his streak, however, was snapped by No. 1-ranked Coleman Scott of Oklahoma State ... he bounced back by taking a 3-1 victory over unseeded Cory Fish from Boise State, assuring him of All-America status ... missed the Eastern Michigan Open nursing an injury, but came back the following week to finish second at the Navy Classic ... placed eighth at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational after winning his opening two matches ... in a return trip to Nevada, he won four in a row, including back-to-back tech falls over Utah Valley State's Flint Ray and Jeremy Garner of Oklahoma City, at the Reno Tournament of Champions ... was tripped up by top-ranked Coleman Scott, 6-4, in the title match to place second ... recorded a 4-2 record at the Southern Scuffle, including three straight wins to start the tournament ... knocked off 13th-ranked Dan Mitcheff of Kent State to earn a trip to the third-place bout ... earned a 15-1 major decision over Columbia's Jerome Greco at the Lone Star Duals ... turned in back-to-back wins just two days apart in dual matches against Maryland (12-6 dec vs. Steven Bell) and American (17-2 tech fall vs. Matt Mariacher) ... finished the year with a 6-8 record against ranked opponents.
2006-07: Once again found himself battling injuries during the season, but was able to earn his second-straight NCAA Tournament bid thanks to a fifth-place finish at the EIWA Championship ... turned in a 21-9 record, including an 8-3 dual match mark ... opened the year with a second-place finish at the Eastern Michigan Open where he was pinned in the title match by Michigan State's Nick Simmons ... missed the next month nursing an injury ... returned to the mat in late December where he placed third at the annual Southern Scuffle ... won his first three matches at the Scuffle, including a 10-6 decision over 14th-ranked Ricky Deubel of Cornell ... pinned Virginia's Eric Albright in the third-place match ... turned in a 2-1 record at the Lone Star Duals, including a 3-1 decision over Oklahoma's Joe Comparin ... won four straight dual matches, including a 5-3 victory over 10th-ranked Evan Sola from North Carolina ... suffered a shoulder injury against East Stroudsburg on Jan. 24 that kept him from competing at the All-Academy Championship ... helped lead Navy to its seventh consecutive win over Army by defeating William Simpson, 11-4, in the annual Star Match ... dropped a 7-5 sudden victory match against Bucknell's David Marble in the opening match at the EIWA Championship ... battled back through the consolation bracket where he was matched up against Marble in the fifth-place match ... Baker turned in a decisive 10-2 mark to clinch a berth into the NCAA Championship ... opened the NCAA Tournament with a 5-1 victory over 10th-seeded Evan Sola before Minnesota's Mack Reiter handed Baker a 12-5 loss ... came back to edge Central Michigan's Conor Beebe, 4-3, in the wrestlebacks before Indiana's Andrae Hernandez ousted him from the tournament with a 7-5 victory.
2005-06: Baker fought off injuries to produce an 11-2 record, a third-place finish at the EIWA Championship and a berth to wrestle at the 2006 NCAA Championship ... after spending 14 months recovering from a season-ending injury in 2004-05, Baker dropped his first match back, a 9-3 decision to Lehigh's John Stout in a dual match ... bounced back and won nine-consecutive matches beginning with an 11-7 win over NC State's Garrett Cummings on Jan. 28 ... also earned dual-meet wins over American's Jordan Lipp (7-5) and a technical fall against Army's Frankie Baughan (20-4) to win the N Star ... won the All-Academy Tournament which included a pin against John Victoria of the Merchant Marine Academy ... seeded fourth at the EIWA Championship, he won his first two matches, including pinning Trent Dixon of Franklin & Marshall in the opener ... dropped a heart-wrenching 11-8 decision to Penn's Matt Valenti, the eventual 2006 NCAA Champion ... came back to pin Army's Baughan and defeated 19th-ranked Mike Mormile of Cornell to finish third and earn a bid to wrestle at the NCAA Championship ... dropped his opener against 18th-ranked Gabriel Flores, 9-3, before handling 19th-ranked Andrae Hernandez of Indian in the consolation bracket, 16-9 ... his NCAA hopes ended with a 12-9 loss to Northern Iowa's Christopher Helgeson ... wrestling unattached, he won the Penn State Open in December before returning to the Naval Academy for the second semester of the 2005-06 academic year ... named the Most Outstanding Wrestler of the Penn State Open, after defeating North Carolina All-American Evan Sola in the quarterfinals and eventually winning the title.
2004-05: Wrestled in just two dual meets, before suffering season-ending shoulder injury ... left school in the spring semester and received a medical redshirt, enabling him to compete as a freshman in 2005-06 ... one of his losses was an 11-10 loss to 14th-ranked Efren Ceballos, an All-American from Cal State-Bakersfield.
High School: A 2003 graduate of Poway High School, Baker was a four-year wrestling letterwinner ... a 2003 State Champion and All-American, while posting a 38-2 record ... placed fourth at the state meet in 2002 ... team finished fourth (2001), third (2002) and second (2003) at the state meet ... attended the Naval Academy Prep School during the 2003-04 academic year ... wanted to attend the Naval Academy his whole life, as he didn't apply anywhere else ... high school teammate, Pat Payne, wrestles at Arizona State
