Bernstein Named NAAA Athlete of the Week
Three-time NCAA qualifier Jadaen Bernstein (Jr. / Glen Gardner, N.J.) has been named the Naval Academy Athletic Association Athlete of the Week following his performance at last weekend’s Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.
Ranked seventh nationally, Bernstein placed fifth at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational, one of the nation’s premier wrestling events that featured 15 of the nation’s top 25 team and better than 100 ranked wrestlers. Competing in a weight class that saw 15 of the top 20 wrestlers in action, Bernstein put together a 5-2 record that included wins over three nationally-ranked opponents - #19 Josef Johnson of Harvard (8-3), #13 Yoanse Mejias of Oklahoma (2-1) and #15 Keaton Subjeck of Stanford (7-5). Additionally, the win over Subjeck in the fifth-place match marked his 100th collegiate victory. He is just the 14th wrestler in program history to reach 100 wins and the first since 2015 when Peyton Walsh completed his career with 108.
Bernstein and the Midshipmen will take to the mat a final time in the calendar year when they travel to Philadelphia on Friday evening (5:00 pm) to battle EIWA foe Drexel in dual action.
