Mids Close 2017 with Dual in the City of Brotherly Love

Senior Drew Daniels enters Friday's night dual at Drexel with a 10-0 record.
Dec. 7, 2017

After spending the last month competing in a handful of tournaments, the Navy wrestling team (2-0) closes out the calendar year with a dual match against EIWA foe Drexel (4-0) on Friday evening (5:00 pm) at the Daskalakis Athletic Center in Philadelphia.  Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for youth (12 & under).  A free live video feed will be available for those not able to attend via the Drexel athletics web site (click here).

Navy Notebook
• Navy owns a 2-0 mark in dual action this season with a pair of wins over Delaware Valley on Nov. 4.  Since the opening weekend of the season, the Mids have focused their attention on tournaments where they have competed at the the Eastern Michigan Open, Fall Brawl, Navy Classic and Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.
• Senior 174-pound Jadaen Bernstein (Glen Gardner, N.J.) is coming off a fifth-place finish at the CKLV Invtiational where he put together a 5-2 record and defeated three nationally-ranked foes.  He scored a 7-5 victory over Stanford’s Keaton Subjeck in the fifth-place match which also marked his 100th collegiate win.  At 100-39, Bernstein is the 14th different Navy wrestler to reach the 100-win milestone and is one win shy of tying Aaron Kalil (2009-12) for 13th on Navy’s career wins list.  Bernstein is 22-4 in dual matches over his career.
• Junior 141-pound Nicholas Gil (Crystal Lake, Ill.), senior 149-pound Corey Wilding (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and senior 184-pound Michael Coleman (Hudson, Ohio) came up just a match short of placing at the CKLV Invtiational.  Gil is off to a fantastic start to the 2017-18 season, amassing a 13-2 record and winning two individual titles (Eastern Michigan Open, Navy Classic).  Wilding, a four-year starter at 149 pounds, owns an 11-4 mark this season, while Coleman enters Friday night’s dual ranked 17th and stands 12-3 this season.
• Senior 157-pound Zack Davis (Granger, Ind.) has produced an 11-4 mark this season and is 13 wins shy of joining Bernstein on the 100 wins list.  With an 87-45 career mark, he needs four wins to add his name to Navy’s all-time wins leader board.
• Senior 165-pound Drew Daniels (Overland Park, Kan.) sat out the CKLV Invtiational but should return to the lineup Friday night in Philly.  Daniels has claimed two individual titles (Eastern Michigan Open, Navy Classic) this season and boasts a 10-0 mark to date.
• Though a senior, heavyweight Austin Faunce (Lake Oswego, Ore.) came into the season having wrestled just seven matches.  He has seven wins already this season.  He wrestled particularly well a week ago at the CKLV Invtiational where he recorded a 3-1 record before retiring due to injury.
