Men’s Cross Country Takes First at Navy Invitational
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy’s men’s cross country program debuted its varsity team on Saturday at the 2017 Navy Invitational. Taking on a five-team field over the 8K United States Naval Academy Golf Course, the Mids recorded seven of the top-10 finishes to accumulate 21 team points. Kevin Murray (So., Wilmington, Del.) and Jake Brophy (So., New Hope, Pa.) led Navy with first and second-place finishes of 24:36.08 and 24:39.32.
“Today was a great day of racing, but as a team we have serious holes to work on moving forward,” remarked head coach Al Cantello. “The conditions were perfect today and it was a perfect test for this time of the year.”
Navy rounded its scoring lineup with seniors Gabriel Collison (La Crescenta, Calif.), Josh Hanna (Winfield, Kan.) and Cory Donley (Salina, Kan.) finishing in fifth, sixth and seventh place with respective times of 25:01.45, 25:07.40 and 25:07.81.
In the team standings, Navy accrued 21 points to finish 24 ahead of American. UMBC (71), St. Mary’s Md. (120) and Bowie State (NTS).
The Mids will continue early season action next Friday afternoon in Smyrna, Del. at the Delaware State Farm Run.
