Men's Cross Country Wins DSU Farm Run Invitational
SMYRNA, Del. – Looking to bolster its program depth with another early season meet, the Navy men’s cross country team competed with a freshmen-heavy roster on Friday at the Delaware State Farm Run. Racing on the 5,000-meter Delaware State Cross Country Course, the Mids won both the team and individual titles as Dawson Podlena (Fr., Topeka, Kan.) led the youthful squad.
“We ran our JV team and pulled out the victory,” remarked head coach Al Cantello. “Maryland Eastern Shore gave us a challenge, but Dawson and Robert finishing first and second put us over in the standings.”
Podlena gave Navy its third different winner in three races this season as the freshman completed the race with a time of 16:29.9. His teammate Robert Graham (Fr., Phoenix, Ariz.) finished right behind at 16:30.2.
The duo was followed in close proximity by a quartet of Maryland Eastern Shore runners that finished third through sixth.
Tyler Parsons (Fr., Cherry Hill, N.J.) and Bryce Jones (Fr., Dalton, Ga.) broke up the streak of Eastern Shore runners as they clocked in respectively in seventh and eighth place at 17:02.9 and 17:05.4.
Greg Galbreath (Fr., Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) gave Navy five top-10 finishes as he place 10th with a time of 17:15.5.
In the team standings, Navy accrued 28 points to edge Maryland Eastern Shore by six. The host Delaware State finished in third with 88 points before Wesley College (116), Morgan State (132) and Coppin State (145) rounded out the pack.
Navy will next be in action on Saturday, Sept. 23 at the Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn.
