BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Navy men’s cross country team finished eighth overall at the Friday’s NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship at Lehigh University with a 255-point team total.
"Today our top-three runners ran well and I thought we had a good chance of finishing in the top-six," said head coach Al Cantell. "However, our No. 4 and No. 5 runners did not run well today and our No. 1 runner did not compete at all today, which held us back from our potential."
Navy junior Zach Hebda (Pittsburgh, Pa.) led the Mids at the 10k-regional course with a 27th place finish of 30:51. Samuel Peckham (So., Valencia, Calif.) and Sean Rynning (Sr., Longwood, Fla.) followed Hebda closely with results of 31:03 and 31:12, good for 33rd and 40th positions, respectively.
Junior Kyle Davis (North Brunswick, N.J.) and junior Bryan De La Mora (Davis, Calif.) finished 69th and 86th with times of 31:54 and 32:14, respectively. The final two scoring Mids in this seven-starter event were sophomores Justin Maguire (Brewster, N.Y.) and Greg Bohmke (Fredericksburg, Va.), who timed in at 32:27 and 32:37, 97th and 100th overall.
As a team, Navy was the second-highest finishing Patriot League squad as Lehigh completed the race in seventh with 240 points.
Villanova was the overall regional champion with 34 team points. Led by the top two individual finishers, Pat Tiernan (29:37) and Sam McEntee (29:44), the Wildcats cruised to the title.
