Pearson and Rome Earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Navy cross country seniors James Pearson and Cody Rome were both named to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I All-Academic Team, it was announced by the organization today. To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic status, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have either earned USTFCCCA All-America status or finished in the NCAA region's top 15 (or top 10 percent) in 2011.
By placing 15th at this year's NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship, Pearson became a two-time all-region honoree. The team captain placed third at the conference championship, earning First Team All-Patriot League accolades. He was one of Navy's top-three runners in six of seven races this season.
In the classroom, Pearson currently posts a cumulative GPA of 3.50. The English major has been named to the Superintendent's List four times and has earned a spot on the Commandant's List in every semester.
Rome placed in the top 10 percent at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship as he took 18th place to garner all-region honors. The native of Eagle, Idaho was a Second Team All-Patriot League honoree and was Navy's top finisher in all but one meet during the season.
Academically, Rome carries a cumulative GPA of 3.55. The applied mathematics major has earned his way on to the Commandant's List five times, made the Dean's List on four occasions and was also named to the Superintendent's List once.
This year's USTFCCCA All-Academic Team totaled 58 student-athletes, representing 36 institutions.
