Men's Cross Country Team & Brophy Honored by USTFCCA
NEW ORLEANS – The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) recently announced its 2017 list of high academic achievers. The Navy men’s cross country program was honored on the All-Academic Team list, while sophomore Jake Brophy (New Hope, Pa.) was recognized as a USTFCCCA All-Academic individual honoree.
This past fall, the Mids found success both in competition and in the classroom as the team finished second at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship to earn one of 31 spots in the 2017 NCAA Championship. The bid at the premier national meet was the 12th in program history and second in two years. This season, Navy’s cumulative team GPA was 3.37. Earlier this offseason, 15 Mids were named to the 2017 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.
For individual student-athletes, the All-Academic team requires honorees to have cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 and to have finished in the top-25 at their respective regional championship. A computer science major, Brophy led Navy’s regional lineup with a 14th place finish of 30:49.9. In the classroom, the Pennsylvania native has a cumulative GPA of 3.81 through three semesters at the Naval Academy.
