Feb. 15, 2012
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy men's cross country team was one of 147 Division I programs to earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team accolades, it was announced Wednesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
As a team, the Midshipmen sported a 3.12 GPA as they earned the honor for the second consecutive season. To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the program must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better and have started at least five runners at their respective NCAA regional championship.
Navy joined Colgate, Lafayette, Lehigh and Army as the Patriot League teams that were included on this year's list of 147 institutions.
The team honor is the second from the USTFCCCA in the past week as on Feb. 10 seniors James Pearson and Cody Rome were both named to the Division I All-Academic Team as both posted GPAs above 3.25 and finished in the top 10 percent at the NCAA Regional meet. Rome and Pearson were two of just 58 Division I cross country student-athletes to earn the award.
