ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Recent Naval Academy graduate Christopher Galvin has been selected to the Capital One Academic All-District II First Team for the sports of men's cross country and indoor and outdoor track and field by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Galvin will now be on the ballot for the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team, which will be announced in late June.

Galvin was a three-time Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2012-13, earning the honor for cross country, indoor track and outdoor track. The Austin, Texas native also received an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship following the indoor track and field season. He is also a Trident Scholar.

Galvin recently graduated as the Naval Academy's valedictorian with a 4.00 GPA as a mechanical engineering major and was commissioned as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy. He was named to the Superintendent's List and the Commandant's List in all eight of his semesters at the Academy.

During the cross country season, Galvin earned All-Patriot League Second-Team honors by placing eighth at the conference championship. Galvin also earned All-Mid-Atlantic Region honors by placing 23rd at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional.

Galvin placed third in the 3,000m run and was fourth in the 5,000m at the Patriot League Indoor Championship in helping Navy win the team title. Galvin also earned IC4A All-East honors by placing sixth in the 5K at the IC4A Indoor Championship.

Galvin had an outstanding outdoor season in the 10,000m run this past spring. He won the 10K at the Patriot League Outdoor Championship with a new meet record time of 29:57.26. The next week, he ran a personal-record time of 29:34.31 to place second at the Virginia Challenge with the third-best time in school history.

He just missed qualifying for the NCAA Championship by one spot as he placed 13th in the 10,000m at the NCAA East Regional with a time of 30:03.37 in a driving rainstorm.

Galvin helped Navy to a 3-0 record against Army this past year in cross country and track and field.
