Navy Men's Cross Country Predicted to Finish First in PL
Aug 22, 2013
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Navy men’s cross country was predicted to finish first, by a close margin, in the 2013 Patriot League Championships, which was announced by the conference office on Thursday, Aug. 22. Even though Lehigh received the most first-place votes (10), Navy edged the Mountain Hawks by two points, 153-151.
Falling just short of their fifth-straight Patriot League Conference Title, USTFCCCA Hall of Fame Head Coach Al Cantello will look to bring the Midshipmen back to their winning ways in 2013. Cantello will lead his squad with the help of four Mids that finished in the top-20 at the conference championship. Navy’s top conference championship finisher, junior John Sweeney (Euclid, Ohio), returns along with teammates Robert Patterson (Owings, Md.), C.J. Elward (Morton, Ill.) and Steve Schroeder (Monticello, Ill.).
Reigning Patriot League Champion Lehigh was picked to finish second by a narrow margin. American, Boston University and Army rounded out the top-5 of the preseason poll with 121, 115 and 100 total points, respectively.
Navy begins the 2013 campaign with the Sea Gull Opener on Saturday, Aug. 31 then the Fordham Fiasco on Saturday, Sept. 7. The Midshipmen will return for their lone home meet, the Navy Invitational, on Saturday, Sept 14 at 11 a.m.
