Men's Cross Country Picked as Preseason Conference Favorites

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - The Patriot League released its preseason men's cross country poll this week and the Midshipmen were selected as the favorite to repeat as conference champions. Navy, which has won four consecutive Patriot League titles, claimed 13 of 16 first-place votes in the preseason poll for a total of 97 points. American garnered a pair of first-place votes and was next with 84 points, while Lehigh, with one first-place vote, was third with 71 points. Army (64), Bucknell (53), Colgate (39), Lafayette (23) and Holy Cross (17) rounded out the field.
The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released its preseason rankings this week as well and the Midshipmen are slotted fifth in the Mid-Atlantic region. Georgetown, Villanova, Princeton and Penn State, which finished 1-4 at last year's regional championships, enter the season in the same spots, respectively, in the preseason poll.
The 2012 Patriot League Championship will take place on Oct. 27 on the campus of Colgate University.
