The Navy men's cross country team will hit the road for its second meet of the season this Saturday when it takes part in the Harry Groves Invitational on the campus of Penn State University in University Park, Pa. The men's 5.2-mile race is slated to begin at 10:45 a.m.
About the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational
The Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational annually draws some of the top cross country programs in the region and this year is no different. This year's field includes Georgetown, which is ranked No. 14 nationally and No. 1 in the Mid-Atlantic region, and Princeton, which is ranked No. 21 in the nation and No. 3 in the region. Host Penn State enters the meet ranked fourth in the region and St. Joseph's (Pa.) is seventh. Geneso State, Ohio and St. Francis (Pa.) will also take part in Saturday's event.
Navy is currently slotted fifth in the Mid-Atlantic region rankings.
Navy's Last Appearance at the Harry Groves Invitational
The Midshipmen last competed at the Harry Groves Invitational in 2010 where they took third place behind national powers Princeton and Georgetown, respectively. Navy placed three runners in the top 15 in Andrew Hanko (second), Cody Rome (sixth) and James Pearson (14th).

Schroeder Honored by the Patriot League
Navy opened the 2012 campaign with the Harry Lang Invitational in Hamilton, N.Y., on Saturday where it placed second out of 11 teams. No. 12 Syracuse won the event with six runners finishing in the top nine. Senior Chris Galvin paced the Navy effort by finishing seventh. Robert Patterson (10th), Kyle Satterwhite (11th), John Sweeney (12th) and Sean Rynning (16th) rounded out Navy's top five.
Freshman Steve Schroeder
finished 21st at last weekend's Harry Lang Invite and was named the M-F Athletic Patriot League Rookie of the Week by the conference on Tuesday. The native of Monticello, Ill., was the top-finishing freshman from a Patriot League school in the meet.
Navy will host its first of two meets this season when it welcomes multiple schools to Annapolis for the Navy Invitational on Sept. 15.
