Men’s Cross Country to Host Annual Navy Invitation on Saturday
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy men’s cross country team will continue early season action on Saturday with the annual Navy Invitational at the United States Naval Academy Golf Course. The schedule for Saturday will consist of the men’s junior varsity race at 10:15 a.m. with the varsity race following behind at 11:00 a.m.
Navy is one of six regional teams competing on the 8k course. The Mids will host American, Bowie State, McDaniel, St. Mary’s (Md.) and UMBC.
Saturday’s meet will be the first official race for Navy’s entire roster as only the team’s plebes ran at the Salisbury Fall Classic last Saturday. The 11 plebes were victorious in both team and individual competitions as the Mids edged Salisbury, 30-31 in team points, while Quinn Schneider earned a 4.08-second victory to claim the individual crown
In the 2016 edition of the Navy Invitational, the Mids recorded a perfect score of 15 points as it captured the first five places in the meet. As a team, the Mids had all seven of their potential runners record top-seven places in the meet. George Washington placed second with 61 points and tallying two of the top 10 finishers. UMBC rounded out the top three with 64 points and one runner in the top 10.
Individually, Lucas Stalnaker (USNA ’17) won his second-straight title with a time of 25:25.32. Amongst returners on this fall’s team, Cory Donley finished fifth at 25:36.68, Josh Hanna seventh at 25:42.29 and Jake Brophy eighth at 25:42.78.
