ANNAPOLIS, Md. – After a solid tune-up at the Fordham Fiasco, the Navy men’s cross country hosts its annual Navy Invitational 8k meet on Saturday, Sept. 14 at the USNA Cross Country Course. Navy’s junior varsity squad will race at 10:30 a.m. and varsity will follow at 11 a.m.
The Midshipmen will join eight other schools at this year’s annual Navy Invitational. Navy will welcome American, Bowie State, Catholic University, Georgetown, George Washington, Howard, Loyola (Md.) and UMBC
This will be the 17th time in program history, and 15th consecutive year, that Navy will host an individual scoring meet on its home course. The Midshipmen have won seven of the previous 13 meets as their last team title came in 2012. Last year, Navy took home the Invitational title. The Mids have finished first or second in the event in each of the last eight seasons.
Navy is ranked seventh in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Mid-Atlantic Region Preseason Poll. Princeton, Georgetown, Villanova, American, Penn State and LaSalle are ranked 1-6, respectively.
The Mids finished first at the Fordham Fiasco last Saturday at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y. Sophomore Steve Schroeder grabbed his first career individual title with a finishing time of 25:55.51. His individual title garnered the Patriot League M-F Athletic Male Runner of the Week.
Navy heads back to Van Cortlandt Park for the Iona Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 21 to face top competition. The Mids will be racing against the likes of Alabama, Indiana, Army, Brown, Harvard, Yale and Cincinnati.
