ANNAPOLIS, Md. -
The Navy men's cross country team will be trying to capture its fifth consecutive Patriot League title this weekend at the conference championships in Hamilton, N.Y. Saturday's race will take place at the Harry Lang Cross Country Course on the campus of Colgate University at 12 p.m.

The Midshipmen are looking to join American (2002-07) as the only program to win at least five consecutive Patriot League titles. Here's a closer look and Navy's four consecutive titles:

Last Year at the Patriot League Championships
Competing in horrendous conditions, including a slick course and falling snow, Navy runners took five of the top-12 spots as the Mids edged American, 38-49, for their fourth consecutive Patriot League title. James Pearson (third) was Navy's top finisher and Al Cantello was named the league's coach of the year for the fourth consecutive time.
Quoting the Coach
Coach Al Cantello's take on this weekend's Patriot League Championship...
"Five years ago we lost by one point and that still sticks in my craw. If we lose, it's going to be by single digits. If we win, it's going to be by single digits. That's how close it is."

Navy and USTFCCCA Rankings
In the most recent United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Mid-Atlantic regional rankings, which were released on Oct. 15, Navy remained ninth. The Mids were previously ranked as high as sixth in the 15-team poll. Fellow Patriot League teams American and Bucknell are ranked 10th and 11th in the region, respectively.
Spreading the Wealth
It hasn't been just one class carrying the Mids this season as the team has relied on its entire roster. In all five meets this season at least one member of all four classes has been a part of Navy's scoring seven. Senior Chris Galvin (twice), sophomore John Sweeney (twice) and junior Robert Patterson have all led Navy runners across the finish line this season. Freshman Steve Schroeder has been named Patriot League Runner of the Week three times this season.
Navy will compete at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships on Nov. 9 in University Park, Pa.
