Nov. 8, 2012
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy men's cross country team will travel to University Park, Pa., for the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional this Friday. The 29-team, 10k race will begin at 1:15 p.m. at Penn State's Blue-White Golf Courses.
About the NCAA Regional Championship
The top two teams at the regional championship will each earn one of 18 automatic bids to the NCAA Championship held on Nov. 17 in Louisville, Ky. In addition, 13 teams will receive at-large bids to the NCAA Championship, which will be announced this weekend.
The top-four runners not associated with the top-two finishing teams in Friday's race will earn an automatic individual invite to the NCAA Championship. In addition, two at-large runners will be selected from the remainder of the national pool to compete at the national championship.
The Mid-Atlantic region had three teams place in the top-20 at last year's NCAA Championship - Villanova (13th), Georgetown (17th) and Princeton (19th). Navy is ranked ninth in the USTFCCCA regional poll, released on Oct. 29, with Princeton, Georgetown, Villanova, Penn State, St. Joseph's, LaSalle, Lehigh and Temple in the No. 1-8 spots.
