Alison Montgomery is starting her fourth season as a member of the Navy coaching staff in the fall of 2014, and her first as the program's recruiting coordinator.
Montgomery's inaugural year saw Navy advance to the NCAA Tournament for the second-consecutive season to cap an 18-14 campaign. She then helped guide the Mids to a share of the 2012-13 regular season championship in the Patriot League on their way to winning a third-straight league tournament title. One year ago, Montgomery was part of a staff that guided the Mids to a school-record 24 wins, the program's first outright Patriot League regular season title and a berth in the WNIT.
Navy has posted an overall record of 63-34, a Patriot League regular season mark of 34-12 and a 7-1 record in the league tournament in Montgomery's trio of seasons in Annapolis.
The former Alison Smith is a 2005 graduate of Bowdoin where she was a four-year starter for the basketball team under the program's then-head coach Stefanie Pemper. She helped lead the Polar Bears to four conference titles, was part of the team's run to the 2004 NCAA Division III national championship game and served as the captain of the program during her senior season.
After graduating from Bowdoin with a bachelor's degree in psychology, Montgomery went on to attain a master's degree in social work from the Boston College School of Social Work in 2007. She then began her coaching career as an assistant coach at Bowdoin in the summer of 2008. The program compiled a 70-18 record over the last three years and advanced to the Sweet 16 in both the 2010 and 2011 NCAA Tournaments.
