Women's Basketball Team Loses At Radford
Box ScoreRadford, Va.-Taryn Causey scored 23 points to lead Radford (4-7) to a 59-51 victory over Navy (4-8) Wednesday night at the Dedmon Center. The loss was Navy's 10th straight on the road dating back to last year.
"Overall our defensive effort was pretty good tonight except for the start of the second half," said head coach Tom Marryott. "We need to find a way to put more points on the board. Once again we had too many lapses tonight. We missed easy shots, took bad shots and had too many unforced errors."
The defensive lapse at the start of the second half that Marryott mentioned hurt the Mids as the Highlanders scored the first 12 points to blow open what was a 31-30 halftime lead to 43-30 with 14:25 left.
The Mids answered with a 9-0 run of its own to cut the lead to 43-39 lead with 11:09 left. Carley Meyer scored five of her 10 points during that run.
Navy cut it to one with 8:29 to go when a Nikki Curtis layup off an assist by Lauren Skrel made it 44-43.
Corrie Fertitta answered for Radford with her third three-pointer of the game to push the lead back to four and the Mids would never get closer than four the rest of the game.
Abi Campbell led the Midshipmen with 11 points, while Meyer grabbed a team-high six boards to go with her 10 points. Curtis added eight points and five rebounds.
Navy, 4-0 at the friendly confines of Alumni Hall, will put their undefeated home mark on the line as they open up Patriot League play Saturday afternoon with a 1 p.m. contest against Lafayette.
